Pileated Woodpecker Plan Error
I built a Pileated woodpecker box per the plans on this site as the nesting pairs in our area have lost 2 natural nesting sites this summer. There is an error in the posted plans: the dimensions for the floor piece are for the smaller Screech Owl box and will not suffice to be a floor in this box. The posted dimensions are 10 in square, but the sides of the box are nominally 11 1/2 inches, so the floor dimensions need to be more like 11 1/2 in X 10 in. If the plan could be corrected it would save anyone that pre-cuts the pieces the loss of a piece of wood.

Hi DC Palm Bay, Thank you for this. Let me see and get back to you.
Re: Pileated Woodpecker Plan Error
Actually, both the left and right sides are 10” wide, equal to the floor. Then when they are attached to the floor, they each add 3/4" to the front and back widths, 1 1/2" total added to the 10” floor, making the front and back widths 11 1/2", equal to the front and back panels, each 11 1/2" wide. When the front and back panels are attached, their outside edges are flush with the outside of each side panel. And the insides of the 4 assembled panels are 10” by 10”. Should be a snug fit.
